Heavy downpour continuously for couple of weeks brought normal life at standstill. The incessant rainfall caused various streams to surge and overflowing. These streams meet the Noa-Dhing River which causes havoc in villages adjacent to the rivers. The low lying lands of the villages submerged completely and forced several families to move out to safer places. In certain parts of the villages the overflowing running water directly hit houses, destroyed gardens, paddy and vegetable fields and turned them out into sandy.
In couple of villages which were situated just above the river level and in those areas the mighty Noa Dhing River eats away the lands and erode them. The five villages were mainly affected in Diyun Circle and in the other side of the river- Dharmapur and Bijaypur had the fury of the river. These two villages sadly turned into islands and became in the middle of the two rivers – Noa Dhing and Buri Dhing. All the families of these villages have taken temporary shelters and currently residing in camps under temporary construction.
Similarly, villagers in Diyun Circle whose houses submerged or washed away have been sheltered in monastery at Udaipur-II.

The floods not only halted the common lives of villagers but also affected the students. Few of the schools were affected by continuous rains and floods as students and teachers while going to schools cannot cross streams and Nalas due to sudden surge of overflowing running waters. One of the examples can be taken of students who are from Maitripur, Guatampur but studying at Diyun town’s schools.
ACTION BEGINS POST FLOOD
- Temporary Embankment at Shantipur
People are grieved and feared owing to the loss of several means of their livelihood during this recent flood. There were several points where the Nao Dhing River directly hits and taking away lands. One such point is at Shantipur and if the river makes enroute into Shantipur, the rest of other adjoining villages in line comprising of Jyotipur, Dumpani, Dumpather, Udaipur, Mudoidweep, Mudoi etc. will completely be washed away and destroyed. So, just to deviate and turn away the flow of the river, the Honorable MLA, Nikh Kamin has constructed a temporary embankment at least for now to evade flood situations and keep people safe.
- Repairing of Magantong Bridge
Magantong Bridge is the lifeline for people of Bordumsa, Jagun, Nampong, Miao, Namphai, Jairampur and Kharsang. It connects them with several other parts of the state. During this recent flood, the running water of mighty Dehing had destroyed the bridge and halted the movement of the people across thus affecting every kind of people. However, taking swift action as local MLA, Mr. Nikh Kamin under his supervision and instruction this important bridge is being repaired.
